With nearly 20 years in the biomedical sciences and a penchant for storytelling, I can help you engage and captivate myriad and diverse audiences. Perhaps you'd like to translate science from the esoteric into the discernible for fundraisers and donors. Maybe you need a write-up of a scientific conference for a publication, or an academic's perspective on funding and policy. Or quite possibly, you'd like a fresh pair of eyes on a scientific grant, manuscript, or presentation. Let's talk about how I can help you with all of your writing and communication needs.
I have a PhD in Pharmacology & Molecular Signaling from Columbia University and a BA in Biological Sciences from the University of Chicago. My goal is always to make the science accessible, intriguing, and to give others the background to empower them to become storytellers themselves.
I have a PhD in Pharmacology & Molecular Signaling from Columbia University and expertise in a wide range of topics including cell biology, oncology, and neurobiology of disease. I have worked with the American Cancer Society to make research accessible to a wide range of audiences.
I am a regular contributor to BioCompare, where I write about a wide-range of scientific topics, techniques, emerging technologies, and tips and tricks for when you’re at the bench.
Previously I was the primary blogger and editor for Wayne State University’s graduate school site about topics relevant to the academic community, including leveraging one's PhD to find fulfilling life paths, dealing with the stigma of entering into so-called "alternative" careers, and bias against women in STEM fields.
I’ve written for the American Cancer Society about cutting edge research, and reported for the Detroit-based news magazine, Model D.
I also do ghostwriting for biotech and editing for academics.
I believe that writing, when done well, helps to distinguish itself, quite possibly, as wisdom, enlightening and empowering the reader to also become a storyteller. When done poorly, it is detrimental. This is especially true for science, where without the proper framework and deciphering of jargon, "information" can all too easily slip into nonsensical, misinterpreted dissonance -- a misshapen ghost of its original intent. I delight in providing this context, in infusing excitement and clarity into topics, especially of the scientific variety.
My interests are not just restricted to science. I also write website copy for various clients on a range of topics.
Having secured competitive grants and written numerous manuscripts, I would be happy to look over and edit your academic work for readability, logical flow, and clarity. I have helped academics with RO1s and manuscripts.
